Dog owners in the South West have been warned after cases of the flesh-eating dog disease Alabama Rot have been reported in the region.Vets are urging all owners to be aware of the deadly disease and to seek advice if their dog develops unexplained skin lesions.Idiopathic cutaneous and renal glomerular vasculopathy (CRGV) – commonly referred to as Alabama Rot – is a dog disease of unknown cause affecting all breeds and was first discovered in the USA in the 1980s.The case was reported in West Chelborough, Dorchester, by Girling and Bowditch Vets, who put out a warning message on its Facebook page telling dog owners to be wary and spot the warning signs early.
