Software helps battle Alzheimer's disease
Scientists and researchers are using software developed by neurosurgeons to fight Alzheimer's disease. A recent study at Cambridge University found that the software stimulates the memory center of an Alzheimer's patient and helped reduce symptoms by almost 40 percent. The study used the software on patients for a month and the results were quickly observed. Alzheimer's is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. It begins with behavioral changes, continues with memory loss, and as it progresses with other neurological symptoms, eventually leads to death.
Emory scientists show how same enzyme spurs Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease
In control brain samples AEP was confined to lysosomes, parts of the cell with a garbage disposal function. But in PD samples, AEP was leaking out of the lysosomes to the rest of the cell. In both Alzheimer's (AD) and Parkinson's (PD), a sticky protein forms toxic clumps in brain cells. "In Parkinson's, alpha-synuclein behaves much like Tau in Alzheimer's," Ye says. Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease are not the same.collected by :Lucy William
