Real Santas celebrate four years of progress to end childhood obesity – The Coast News Group
Physicians involved in the program say it's all about changing behaviors and lifestyles with the families participating in the program. "Childhood obesity in our area is consistent with the national average," Rebecca Cripe, a registered dietitian at Gundersen Health System, said. A program launched in late 2016 at Gundersen Health System is hoping to put a dent in those numbers. Since the program began last September, its seen around 25 families complete the 12 week course. That study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found nearly 604 million adults worldwide are obese and 108 million children.

Woman bikes 2,000 miles for childhood obesity

VERNON -- A Jefferson County woman plans to bike her way across the country to bring awareness to childhood obesity. She says she wanted to do something to help others, so she decided to raise raise awareness about childhood obesity and raise money to build a not-for-profit youth gym. Vernon bike business has also helped get her bike ready. She plans to try to bike between 80 and 90 miles each day before stopping. She'll have a big send off with a police and several kids on their bikes to escort her.
