MassLive : declared in Trump taps UNC oncologist to lead National Cancer Institute

President Donald Trump has named Norman "Ned" Sharpless, the director of the University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, to lead the National Cancer Institute. He sees patients at North Carolina Cancer Hospital, which is the clinical home for UNC Lineberger. He returned to Chapel Hill as a faculty member at Lineberger in 2002 and became head of the cancer center in 2014. The oncologist and geneticist will succeed Doug Lowy, who has been acting director of NCI since early 2015. Lowy is expected to remain at the institute as deputy director and a researcher.

The event wasn't just offered here in Huntsville; organizations provided complimentary services to cancer survivors all across the country. "I don't think I've seen anything else like this in Huntsville," said Aleeya Hickman, a cancer survivor. "My hospital...they do all types of events for, you know, cancer survivors, but never seen anything like this here." Students offered complimentary services to survivors of the disease.
