The Telegraph : declared in 'Marathon dad' dies after defying expectations by completing 24 races despite terminal cancer

A father-of-three who ran 24 marathons after being diagnosed with terminal cancer has died, having beaten the odds to live years longer than doctors predicted. Ben Ashworth found out he had terminal bowel cancer in March 2012, and was given just six months to live. Mr Ashworth, 38, from Preston, Lancashire, began taking part in charity runs in three years ago. He went on to complete 24 marathons, in between chemotherapy treatment, as well as four ultra-marathons, a cycling tour up the three peaks of Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowden and a Tough Mudder assault course race. His wife Louise said the family was "heartbroken".
