There's some moderately good news and bad news from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about the new superbug that has been generating concern in the United States and elsewhere.First the bad: Another human case of the bug, known as mcr-1, has been found in the United States, bringing the total domestic cases so far to four.The moderately good news: Investigations into two of those cases failed to turn up any evidence the bug spread to contacts of the people who were carrying it.

ByA new report from the Obama administration details the fourth confirmed discovery of a superbug in recent weeks, or bacteria that has become resistant to all antibiotics, including the so-called "antibiotic of last resort."The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday details on the fourth patient, a young girl who had developed traveler's diarrhea on June 12, two days prior to her return to the United States from the Caribbean.She had then made outpatient visits to a hospital emergency room and a clinic, but wasn't hospitalized for her illness.But in July, scientists were able to conclude that the child was infected by a deadly strain of E. coli that wasn't treatable by the antibiotic of last resort.
