Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the bowel.Up to now, there was very little known about what might cause Crohn's to develop but new research has established a key factor: fungus.According to Global News, researchers have identified a type of fungus and two types of bacteria that they believe contribute to the reason why some people get Crohn's.Senior author of the study, Mahmoud A. Ghannoum, PhD, a professor and director of the Center for Medical Mycology at Case Western Reserve and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, has spoken about the research:"We already know that bacteria, in addition to genetic and dietary factors, play a major role in causing Crohn's disease.
