There were fewer than 30 human cases of Lyme disease reported in Michigan in any year between 2000 and 2004. The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates the number of Lyme disease cases nationwide could be 10 times higher than what's actually reported. In the upper Midwest, states such as Wisconsin and Minnesota have more than 10 times as many human cases of Lyme disease as Michigan.
