Glenview-based SoyNut Butter files for bankruptcy after possible E. coli contamination quoting : Chicago Tribune

Glenview-based SoyNut Butter Co. has filed for bankruptcy and plans to liquidate after its products were recalled for possible E. coli contamination. Also in the filing, SoyNut Butter stated that possible E. coli contamination of certain inventory "poses or is alleged to post a threat of imminent and identifiable hazard to public health or safety." In its Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing, SoyNut Butter, which makes a nut-free peanut butter substitute, revealed it has less than $50,000 in estimated assets and between $1 million and $10 million in liabilities. Healthy Original Creamy SoyNut Butter on March 4 after it said the U.S. Food and addiction Administration alerted it of possible E. coli-related illnesses linked to the product. Two days later, it revealed that the FDA had informed it of a positive E. coli test of its products made by a contract manufacturer, Dixie Dew Products.
