Lyme disease is often misdiagnosed according to : vernonmorningstar

The Vernon Lyme Disease Support Group presents Lyme Disease in Canada with author Vanessa Farnsworth Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Vernon library. Farnsworth will speak about her personal experience with Lyme disease, the risks and how to protect yourself, what to do if you suspect you have Lyme disease, and what the future holds. "There is the belief that the Okanagan is not a high risk area for Lyme disease but there are many infected ticks because this is a flight path for migrating birds which often carry the ticks," said Merina Brisdon, facilitator for the Vernon Lyme Disease Support Group, which is presenting Lyme Disease in Canada on Saturday. Lyme disease has many other symptoms and is often misdiagnosed as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, bipolar disorder, Parkinson's or even ALS. Many doctors are not aware of how prevalent it is."The treatment for Lyme disease is taking antibiotics for many weeks, even months.

Lyme disease is often misdiagnosed
The reason experts are predicting a jump in human Lyme disease cases now is because of a bumper crop of acorns falling from oak trees nearly two years ago. REMOVE TICKS SAFELY: To safely remove attached ticks, first disinfect the area with an alcohol swab. More acorns leads to more mice, leads to more infected ticks, leads to more Lyme disease in us,How can we protect ourselves and our family? Lyme disease is caused by bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted tohumans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. In most cases, to transmit Lyme disease, a deer tick must be attached for 36 to 48 hours.

Conservation strategies bring Lyme disease risk

Conservation management strategies could increase the risk of the tick-borne infection Lyme disease, which can cause severe and long-lasting symptoms in humans, according to a recent study. It is estimated there are 2,000 to 3,000 new cases of Lyme disease in England and Wales each year. Lyme disease is an infection of humans contracted from the bite of an infected tick. Previous research by Lucy Gilbert of The James Hutton Institute, who was also involved in the study, has shown that greatly reducing deer densities by exclusion fencing or culling can reduce tick density and therefore Lyme disease risk.
