Country has second highest number of obese children in the world, finds new study
While India has 14.4 million of them, China tops the chart with 15.3 million obese children. India has the second highest number of obese children in the world, according to a new study published in The New England Journal of Medicine. Nearly 108 million children and over 600 million adults had their body mass index (BMI) above 30, the threshold for obesity. According to the study, obesity has doubled since 1980 in more than 70 countries. The study finds that United States has the highest level of obesity among children and young adults at nearly 13% while Egypt topped the list for adult obesity at around 35%.The Pennsylvania Department of Health publishes the data annually, combining students in grades K-6 in one group, and students in grades 7-12 another. The department doesn't publish BMI information for specific schools or school districts. Rather, it publishes them by county and groups them into six regions.
