Local clinic hosts obesity awareness 5K run and health fair

One local clinic hosted a health fair and 5k race Saturday morning. Greater Meridian Health Clinic partnered with the city of Meridian to sponsor a fight against obesity. This is part of a statewide effort to drastically reduce the obesity rate in the state by the year 2065. City officials sought this as a perfect opportunity to help promote the importance of health awareness to residents around the area. Loneliness may be a greater public health hazard than obesity — and experts say it's getting worse
Holt-Lunstad's research shows loneliness could pose an even greater threat to public health than obesity, and other research has found it even rivals the risks of smoking. "Indeed, many nations around the world now suggest we are facing a 'loneliness epidemic,'" Holt-Lunstad said in a statement. It found a 50% reduction in the risk of early death among people with greater social interaction. The second analysis included data on 3.4 million people from 70 studies and looked at the role social isolation, loneliness, and living alone had on mortality. Any one of those risk factors puts people at a greater risk for disease and life-threatening injury.
