SANDY HOOK — Gunnison Beach has reopened for swimming after being closed for a day because of high bacteria levels in the water.The park announced the reopening of the clothing-optional beach Wednesday morning on its Facebook page shortly after 10 a.m.Park officials allowed visitors on that beach on Tuesday but prohibited them from going into the water because of the bacteria levels.The water was retested Tuesday but results were not available until Wednesday morning.

The beach at Phoenix Park where tubers typically enter the Chippewa River could open as soon as Saturday if test results taken today show reduced bacteria levels.The Eau Claire City-County Public Health Department closed the site Wednesday after city workers discovered that sewage apparently was leaking from at least one of two underground pipes just upriver, under the Eau Claire River, from Phoenix Park.On Friday officials revealed that tests the previous day revealed high bacteria levels in the waters at the park beach site.
