SAN DIEGO - Scripps Health announced Monday that it is joining the MD Anderson Cancer Network, a global network of hospitals and health care systems run by the University of Texas.The partnership will create the Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center in order to increase access to high-quality cancer care in eight Southern California counties, from San Diego to Santa Barbara."MD Anderson is the top-ranked cancer center in America, with unparalleled experience, resources and expertise," said Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder.The 75-year-old MD Anderson, based in Houston, received the honor from U.S. News & World Report in its annual hospital rankings.

Scripps Health and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center have reached a partnership agreement to create Scripps MD Anderson Cancer Center, a comprehensive and clinically integrated cancer care program in San Diego that will provide adult cancer patients greater access to the most advanced oncology care available throughout Southern California.Through this partnership, Scripps MD Anderson is part of MD Anderson Cancer Network®, a global collaborative network of hospitals and health care systems dedicated to MD Anderson's mission to end cancer globally.The collaboration allows Scripps to combine its expertise with MD Anderson's knowledge and capabilities for Southern California, covering eight counties from Santa Barbara to the U.S.-Mexico border."MD Anderson is the top-ranked cancer center in America, with unparalleled experience, resources and expertise," said Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder.

In a bid to increase its reach throughout Southern California, the San Diego-based Scripps Health system on Monday finalized a partnership with the internationally known MD Anderson Cancer Network.The deal makes Scripps the only direct collaborator with Houston-based MD Anderson in an eight-county region stretching from the U.S.-Mexico border north through Santa Barbara County and east to California's border with Arizona.Executives from both organizations gathered for a contract-signing ceremony in La Jolla, making official a relationship that has been building since MD Anderson approached Scripps in May 2015.Now that the alliance is finalized, the new partners said they will immediately begin recruiting physicians, including a new program director.
