A small number of children from the Angus area have been quarantined in hospital as investigations continue into an outbreak of E. coli O157.NHS Tayside confirmed they had set aside what it describes as a "dedicated area" of Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.A three-year-old girl from the area is understood to be seriously ill in a hospital in Glasgow and has received a blood transfusion.

Part of Tayside Children's Hospital at Ninewells in Dundee has been set aside for confirmed and suspected cases in the Angus E. coli O157 outbreak.NHS Tayside confirmed the move as part of what health chiefs described as an "evolving situation" in which a young girl also remains seriously ill in a Glasgow hospital.A spokesperson said: "Further testing on a precautionary basis has been carried out on a number of children and adults, however the number of patients now confirmed positive for E. coli O157 remains very low.
