Vanderbilt outside linebackers coach Osia Lewis will move into a new off-the-field role as he is being treated for liver cancer, the school announced Tuesday. His full-time replacement as outside linebackers coach will be hired at a later date. According to the school, in mid-January, doctors told Lewis a mass had been discovered on his liver. A 28-year coaching veteran, Lewis began suffering from nausea, dizziness and stomach aches in November but coached the remainder of the season.

Vandy swaps duties for assistant coach fighting liver cancer

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason is switching up the job responsibilities for assistant Osia Lewis while he fights liver cancer. Mason announced Tuesday that Lewis now will be chief consultant to the head coach and senior defensive assistant. The Vanderbilt head coach says the Commodores are going to stick with Lewis and his family. Vanderbilt will announce a full-time replacement linebackers coach later. Lewis has been coaching outside linebackers for the Commodores.
