FORMER Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland Martin McGuinness died following a short battle with a rare genetic disease called amyloidosis. Amyloidosis is a group of rare conditions caused by deposits of abnormal protein - amyloid - in tissues and organs throughout the body. Amyloidosis is a difficult disease to diagnose, and it has often been mistaken for heart disease. He was diagnosed with amyloidosis in December, a disease which has links to Donegal. Mr McGuinness, who was 66, died during the night at Derry's Altnagelvin Hospital with his family by his side.

A separate GoFundMe was also set up to help other children with Vitiligo meet Rowdy. Carter Blanchard and Rowdy, a 13-year-old Labrador retriever from Canby, Ore., have finally met up after being online buddies.

Boy with rare skin disorder forms bond with dog with same disease

An eight-year old boy with a rare skin condition finds a furry friend with the same disorder. Vitiligo is a rare skin disorder that destroys the cells that make pigment in the skin. Adcock reached out to Rowdy's owner and they all became friends communicating online. Carter Blanchard and the dog, Rowdy, are connected through spots. Rowdy is helping Carter love his skin despite vitiligo.
