Sport and exercise can help with many health challenges and for a group of Edmontonians battling Parkinson's disease, boxing has become that outlet. Ten thousand Albertans live with Parkinson's disease and between 6 to 7 million people are affected worldwide. There are currently six boxing programs in the province for people with Parkinson's disease. "The doctor was very blunt, he didn't tell me to sit down or anything, he just said you have Parkinson's," Devries said. Boxing for Parkinson's began as a 2-month pilot project at Avenue Boxing Club and is now a permanent fixture.

The Dutchess Heart Walk raises money for American Heart Association programs that fight cardiovascular diseases. Held on Saturday, the Dutchess Heart Walk invited people to walk in honor of a loved one affected by heart disease or stroke, according to an American Heart Association press release. An Ulster County heart walk is scheduled for April 2 at SUNY New Paltz. Burchell was born with an aneurysm on his heart artery and a heart valve defect.
