Minnesota governor undergoes surgery for prostate cancer stat : Reuters

Dayton served six years as a U.S. senator from Minnesota before he was elected to his first term as governor in 2010. A day before he announced the cancer diagnosis in January, Dayton collapsed while delivering his state-of-the-state address in St. Paul. Dayton has said the cancer has not spread beyond his prostate. Dayton's surgery proceeded as planned and was over by late morning, Deputy Chief of Staff Linden Zakula said in an emailed statement.




Dayton is now "resting comfortably" at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, according to a statement from Linden Zakula, the governor's deputy chief of staff. Dayton, 70, opted for surgery to treat his prostate cancer and revealed the cancer diagnosis in late January, a day after a public health scare when he fainted during his State of the State address. Mark Dayton's surgery to remove his prostate "went as planned," his office reported Thursday. Prostate cancer is highly treatable and common in men of Dayton's age. The surgery is Dayton's third at Mayo Clinic in recent years.

The Democratic governor expects to spend the night in the hospital but will return to his normal work schedule next week. Dayton revealed his diagnosis just a day after he collapsed during his State of the State address last month.
