Only weeks remain for US supply of yellow fever vaccine
The United States uses 500,000 doses of yellow fever vaccine each year, distributed to travelers and military personnel who will be visiting yellow fever–endemic regions. This would allow the company to import the yellow fever vaccine manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur France. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the supply of yellow fever vaccine available in the United States is rapidly dwindling and is on track to be completely depleted by summer. Just 1 dose of the vaccine confers lifelong immunity, with recipients showing 80% immunity to yellow fever virus 10 days after inoculation and 99% immunity within 30 days. That vaccine, Stamaril, was distributed to 252 clinic sites in the United States this month.HEALTHVaccine supply for yellow fever dwindlesU.S. health officials warned Friday that the country's supply of yellow fever Vaccine is dwindling and will likely be gone by the summer — with no way to make more because of a manufacturing problem. Bush spokesman Jim McGrath said in a statement that Bush, 92, was discharged from Houston Methodist Hospital on Friday. That vaccine, Stamaril, is considered investigational and is unlicensed in the United States. Chang sentenced Solomon — who prosecutors say masterminded the scheme — to seven years in prison last month. During that hospital stay, which included time in intensive care, doctors inserted a breathing tube and connected him to a ventilator.
