After a recent E. coli outbreak at Chicken & Rice Guys locations and food trucks sent 10 customers to the hospital, the restaurant chain has temporarily closed up shop. Ian So, CEO of Chicken & Rice, said health inspectors believe the outbreak was caused by a contaminated product or sick employee. In addition to its five mobile food trucks, Chicken & Rice Guys have two locations in Boston, on Bedford and Washington Street, and two more in Allston and Medford. So said the chain plans to hire a food safety consultant and an outside cleaning firm to "deep clean" its four locations and food trucks. E. coli, which can cause fatal kidney failure, is a bacteria most often transmitted through contaminated food or undercooked meat.
