Hawaii News Now : reported that U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono to undergo treatment for kidney cancer

U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, has announced she has been diagnosed with kidney Cancer and will undergo surgery to remove her right kidney. According to the American Cancer Society, kidney cancer is among the 10 most common cancers in both men and women. Hirono, 69, said she's being treated by a kidney cancer specialist at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital. Her treatment plan includes surgery to remove her right kidney, and an outpatient procedure to eradicate the lesion on her rib. She said the cancer was found during a routine physical, and that cancer was also found on one of her ribs.
