Photo from http://gastateparks.org/doncarterGAINESVILLE, Ga. -- Swimming can resume at Lake Lanier's Don Carter State Park, the Department of Natural Resources said on Thursday. An initial water quality test is done at all Georgia State Park swimming beaches before they open for the summer. Higher E. coli levels were found during routine water testing, however officials were not able to say what caused the elevation. For the first time, swimming had been suspended at the park due to increased levels of E. coli bacteria.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports (http://on-ajc.com/2qveXzz ) that Georgia State Parks spokeswoman Kim Hatcher says the lake at Don Carter State Park has high levels of E. coli. She says officials performed tests on Tuesday. Hatcher says it is currently unknown if the source of the bacteria is human or animal.collected by :Lucy William
