More than 2,500 walkers — some with strollers and dogs — did a lap or two around Moraine Valley Community College Sunday to promote heart healthy activities and raise money for the American Heart Association. The Palos Hills Heart Walk was one of four walks that had a total goal of raising $3.4 million to support the association's research and education programs, said association spokesman Julia Kursey. One was held in Vernon Hills Sept. 24, with two more planned next weekend — in Chicago on Sept. 30 and Oak Brook Oct. 1.Given that three out of 10 adults don't exercise and that 80 percent of heart disease is preventable, the sounds of thousands of feet and paws hitting the pavement sent a profound message.
