Put patients in hibernation to destroy cancer
'But if you could put the patient into synthetic torpor you could stop the cancer growing. Doctors could cure cancer by placing people in a form of hibernation, according to a leading scientist. By dropping body temperature from the normal 37C (99F) to around 13-15C (55-59F) it is hoped the body's functions would slow to a virtual standstill. Around 50 per cent of cancer patients have an advanced form of the disease. 'Then we would lower body temperature to 13 to 15C (57F).
Doctors hope cancer could be CURED in just ten years by putting patients into 'hibernation' for a week
doctors hope a period of hibernation could help terminal cancer patientsAs a result, medics can use much higher levels of radiation without harming patients. hibernation could help stop harmful effects of radiotherapyCancer Research UK said: "The effects of hibernation are hard to predict. Prof Durante told the American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Boston: "You wake up the patients and they are cured. Around 160,000 cancer victims die in the UK each year, the vast majority after the disease spreads. They found it stops tumours getting bigger and protects the body against toxic effects of the radiotherapy used to zap them.collected by :Lucy William
