So basically, all those critters you were kicking up in the field last year, means there will be an increase in the Lyme plague this year. This little creature, capable of causing some to shriek like banshees, is just a nuisance, especially for hunters in the field. Regardless, hunters and all other folks spending time outdoors this summer, should be vigilant in checking for ticks. And mice are responsible for infecting up to 95% of the ticks feeding on them with Lyme. Ostfeld is predicting 2017 to be a "particularly risky year for Lyme," though he cannot predict which states will be at the highest risk.
This Lyme Disease Spread Map is Terrifying
In a map published in 2016 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of confirmed and probable Lyme disease cases in the U.S. more than doubled since 2001. In the 1980s, Lyme disease cases were only confined in western Wisconsin and the area from Connecticut to New Jersey, but now the disease has spread in all directions. But since the 1990s, reported cases of Lyme disease have tripled to 30,000 cases a year. Another reason for the spread of Lyme disease is the surge in deer. The longer an infected tick stays on your body, the higher the chance you have of getting Lyme disease.collected by :Lucy William
