A tick-borne disease worse than Lyme may be spreading according to : First coast

So far, 75 instances of severe disease have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Powassan virus, which is a far rarer and more deadly pathogen than the bacterium that produces Lyme, is also transmitted by the deer tick. The virus can cause inflammation in the brain, which leads to death or permanent disability in 60 percent of cases. "And it could be that it is emerging and will explode over the next few years."Read more on TODAY.

"Lyme disease is a disease passed on by a tick. Ticks are carriers of Lyme disease. The TV GP commented on an article in the news which revealed rising numbers of wild deer could be behind a tenfold increase in Lyme disease, which is transmitted to humans by tick bites. He said: "There are two million wild deer out there. Dr Chris Steele joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to discuss the latest health headlines.
