Alzheimer's death rate has risen by 55% in US, CDC reports according to : CNN

Researchers at the CDC analyzed data from death certificates at the state and county level in the US to see where Alzheimer's disease had been reported as the underlying cause of death. (CNN) The rate of people dying from Alzheimer's disease in the United States rose by 55% over a 15-year period, new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows. "Millions of Americans and their family members are profoundly affected by Alzheimer's disease," CDC Acting Director Dr. Anne Schuchat said in a statement. Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, causing symptoms including memory loss, impaired language, difficulties in concentrating and decision making, confusion, or disorientation. "Supportive interventions can lessen the burden for caregivers and improve the quality of care for people with Alzheimer's disease," he said.

More people with Alzheimer's dying at home in U.S., CDC finds

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive brain disorder that impairs memory, judgment and other mental abilities. In the new report, the CDC analyzed death certificates from 1999 to 2014 and found a surprise — a shift in where people with Alzheimer's are dying. As baby boomers age, "the numbers dying from Alzheimer's are just going to get worse," said Keith Fargo, director of scientific programs for the Alzheimer's Association. Experts said it's not clear why more people with Alzheimer's are dying at home than in hospitals or nursing homes. The CDC also released Alzheimer's death rates for counties.
